Award’s Background
The City of Red Deer - Recreation, Parks & Culture Department sponsor this award which recognizes an outstanding sportsperson who has made a significant contribution towards the development and operation of amateur sport in Red Deer. The 2021 recipient will be the 57th individual to receive this prestigious award which was initiated in 1959 with Dr. J. B. Long, a local dentist, being the first recipient.

Selection Criteria
The nominee should meet the following criteria:
- Possesses a genuine interest in the overall growth of an amateur sport or sports in Red Deer.
- Is distinctly known as having enhanced / developed an amateur sport or sports in Red Deer.
- Exemplifies good sportsmanship, leadership and is a role model looked upon by all.
- Volunteers time in administrating, coaching, officiating and / or other aspects of amateur sport.
- Volunteers time unselfishly and without thought of material gain.
- Demonstrates respect for fellow coaches, parents, athletes & officials.
- Has a minimum five (5) years community service and involvement in Red Deer amateur sports.
- Involvement in non-sport community organizations will also be taken into consideration.
- The nominee does not have to be active with a sport association during the previous year.

Recognizing amateur athletes, able-bodied or with a disability, who have been highly successful in their sport(s) in the past calendar year. Red Deer is a leader in developing champions in all sports which aligns with Canada’s “Sport for Life” blueprint for a successful and healthy nation.

Male & Female Athlete of the Year - Contact Candy Towers at Central Sport
Recognizing amateur athletes, able-bodied or with a disability, who have been highly successful in their sport(s) in the past calendar year. Red Deer is a leader in developing champions in all sports which aligns with Canada’s “Sport for Life” blueprint for a successful and healthy nation.

- One male and one female athlete will be selected.
- Must be a local athlete from Red Deer and Region or representing a Red Deer team in
- One or multiple significant accomplishments of local, national or international acclaim.
- There are NO age restrictions on nominees.
- Accomplishment can be as an individual or as a representative of a team.
