The Alberta Sport Development Centre – Central (ASDC-C) is pleased to announce that the ASDC-Central Athlete of the Month for October 2018 is Jared Howse. Jared Howse is a 16 year old Red Deer, AB resident, Grade 11 student at St. Joseph’s High School and a competitive distance runner (x-country and track).

Jared currently competes with St. Joseph’s Falcons and the Red Deer Titans Track Club. Even as a young athlete Jared has already compiled an impressive resume in his sport. Here are some of his most recent highlights:
1. Champion – 2018 ASAA High School Provincial 5 km – Cross Country
2. Alberta Athletics 2017 Midget Male Athlete of the Year – Cross Country.
3. Alberta Athletics 2018 U18 Provincial Outdoor Champion - 3000m and 2000m Steeplechase
4. 2018 Alberta Summer Games Champion - 3000m
5. 2018 ASAA Provincial Track & Field Championships - Gold 3000m, Silver 1500m
6. 2018 Tri-Western Championships U18 - Silver 3000m, Silver 2000m Steeplechase.
7. 2018 Legion Nationals U18 - 4th 2000m steeplechase.
8. Currently ranked 4th in U18 2000m steeplechase - Athletics Canada

Jared’s future plans include; making Team Alberta for National XC Championships in Kingston, ON this November 2018, making Team Alberta for Legion Track and Field Nationals in 2019, making U18 2019 Invitational standard for 2000m steeplechase, place top 20 in the 2 mile (3200m) at the Simplot Games February 2019 held in Pocatello, Idaho. (The Simplot Games is one of North America’s premier indoor High School track and field event with over 2000 athletes from the USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand).

With Jared’s strong work ethic, his undeniable athletic abilities and his training experiences with ASDC-Central, he will surely continue to grow, develop and succeed in his running/athletics career!
