On December 2 & 3, Simon competed in the season opener of the the 2017-2018 Alberta Cup Series for Cross Country Skiing. The AB Cup 1 & 2 event was held in Canmore and hosted hundreds of cross country skiers, from not only all over our province but from all over our country.  Simon won Gold in both the skate ski and classic technique events.  There were about 50 skiers in each race, in the Midget Category.

 

Simon has been cross country skiing for six years and has been competing at races for four years. He competes regularly at Albert Cups, Alberta Youth Championships and he attended the AB Winter Games in 2016, winning a bronze and silver medal.  Simon will be competing at the 2018 AB Winter Games in Wood Buffalo National Park, in February, with Zone 4.

 

Simon trains with the Red Deer Nordic Club and has also been an assistant coach with the Jackrabbits program. Simon trains three days a week, on snow and also enjoys dry land and strength training on alternate days. During the off-season from skiing, Simon trains and competes in Track & Field (with Red Deer Titans) and cross country running.  Last spring, Simon won the bronze medal at the Woody’s Marathon 10km run, in his age category. 

Simon is in grade eight, at St. Francis of Assisi Middle School, in Red Deer. He enjoys hiking, mountain biking, fly fishing, cooking and eating good food, watching movies, drawing, reading and video games.
