- Handball -

I am 16 years old and currently attend Grade 11 at Notre Dame High School in Red Deer.  From a young age, I have enjoyed playing sports. I consider myself a multi sport athlete, but have chosen to focus my competitive efforts on handball the past year.  I began playing handball last spring during school league. During the school season I received an invitation to try out for the Alberta Youth Handball team.   I have had the privilege to train with the provincial team since last May and travelled to Germany and Iceland to compete against European teams in August and December. I have fallen in love with the sport. It is such a complicated game, with so many rules and it keeps you on your toes, more so than any sport that I have ever played.  I continue to train with Team Alberta and am currently preparing with my teammates for tournaments that we will compete in this summer in Spain and Italy.  I will also be competing in Nationals in late July.
I play hockey for Red Deer Midget A Female Chiefs, being named team captain this past season. I have played hockey for 6 years, including at the AAA (Bantam) level.  I also play school basketball, having played on the senior team this year.  Last year, I received the “Coaches Award” and “Most Defensive Player Award” for my high school junior basketball team. I have been competitively involved in triathlon for the past 6 years and participated in the Alberta Summer Games four years ago. This year I am taking a break from triathlon training to focus on handball. Other sports that I have been involved in the past few years include: rugby, underwater hockey, swim club, cross country running, cross fit.
I want to continue to grow as an athlete in my skills and knowledge with the help of this program.
