The Alberta Sport Development Centre – Central (ASDC-C) is pleased to announce that the ASDC-Central Male Athlete of the Month for December 2017 is Michael Robinson.

Michael Robinson, is 16 years old and a grade 10 student with Alberta Outreach and Red Deer resident, and a competitive tennis athlete with the Rene Simon Tennis School in Red Deer.

Michael spent several months training - February to August 2017 - at the Bill Adams Tennis Academy in Pembroke Pines, Florida, training 25 hours/week with an additional 5 hours/week of fitness training.  Michael’s season highlight came in earning 1st place at a USTA U16 tournament in Weston. Florida. Since returning to Red Deer, Michael, is again training with Coach Simon, practicing 5-6 days a week, with a mixture of lessons and match play. At a November Open adult tournament at the Tennis Academy in Calgary and Michael made it to the semi-finals in Men’s singles.

This January, Michael begins his quest to qualify for the U18 Indoor Canadian Nationals in Ontario. He is currently ranked #14 in the province in U18 Boys and one of his goals is to regain his the top 8 ranking for this year and achieve a #1 ranking for the following year.

Michael’s athletic gifts, his desire to excel along with his training experiences with ASDC-Central will only see Michael continue to grow and develop in his tennis career!  Michael hopes to play NCAA men’s tennis in the US upon graduation from high school, and pursue a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
