As an athlete, Keith competed at the National and International level in the sport of gymnastics. He spent 8 years on the National team and went to 4 World Championships, and was a 2-time Senior National Tumbling Champion in the specific gymnastic sport of Trampoline & Tumbling.

From 1998 to 2003, Keith was team coach for the Canadian National Team and an International level judge for Trampoline & Tumbling from 2000-2006.

Mr. McDonald is an NCCP Level III certified coach in the sport of Trampoline as well as a master course conductor in the same sport. Keith has 22 years of coaching experience in gymnastics and Trampoline & Tumbling. From 1997-2007, Keith was the head coach of the Red Deer Gymnastics Association. In addition, he has spent 10 years as a part time instructor for Red Deer College Kinesiology program (Kpac gymnastics course), and for the past six years, Keith has been a full-time, continuous faculty member at RDC in the Kinesiology program.

Along with a diploma in Kinesiology, Keith earned a B.A. (Psychology) and a Masters in Sports Psychology from the University of Alberta.
